He’s in a wheelchair and appears to have a mental impairment, but police say that a Kentucky panhandler is faking his disability in a scheme to score cash. Gary Hank Thompson, 30, is a common sight on the streets near Lexington, Ky. Sitting in a wheelchair, Thompson’s speech is slurred and he appears to have limited use of his hand.

Statue Of Liberty Gets Accessibility Upgrade

After a year of renovations, the Statue of Liberty is set to reopen this weekend and it’s poised to be more disability-friendly than ever before.

 

For the first time, people who rely on wheelchairs will be able to visit the monument’s observation level and see inside Lady Liberty thanks to the addition of a lift. Previously those with mobility impairments were only able to visit the ground level of the statue.

               Just what is spina bifida? It is a birth defect of the backbone often called “open spine”.

It affects a child when the spinal column doesn’t close properly. There are three forms of spina bifida.

They are Meningocele, Mylomeningocele, & Occulta. They all have different ways of affrcting a child.

Occulta is often called the hidden form. Everything is usually normal. This form isn’t seen very often.
